What each kind of software is for
Charting and technical analysis
A brokerage chart usually shows price and a few indicators. A dedicated package adds layouts, alerts, scanning and, in some cases, a scripting language. The extra data behind those charts is often a separate charge.
Stock screeners
A screener narrows a universe with filters you choose. The useful question is which market the filter actually covers, and which fields sit behind a paid plan.
Investment research
Research software gathers statements, valuations, transcripts or fund notes into one workflow. A model rating is a model. It is not a promise about the next price.
Options analytics
Payoff diagrams and volatility views show the shape of a structure at the assumptions you enter. WiT Markets already has a free expiry payoff calculator. A specialist package adds chain data and more structures, and it does not remove the risk of the position.
Trading journals
A journal stores the trades you give it and can summarise that history. The free journal on this site stays in your browser. A paid journal may import from a broker. The statistics still describe the imported history, not the next trade.
Portfolio tracking
Tracking software records holdings, income and performance. Tax reports follow the provider's country coverage. It is not the same decision as the allocation calculator, which only weights the holdings you type.
Backtesting and algorithms
A backtest replays rules on a historical set. Survivorship, missing costs and a rule tuned to that history can all flatter the result. Live trading can diverge from the test. Coding platforms make that explicit: the engine runs what you write.
Market news and terminals
A terminal or a news product sells speed, alerts and often a data licence. The licence, the delay and the region are part of the price. This directory does not embed those feeds.

How we compare trading software
The cards on this page are the portfolio rows from the 16 October 2026 research extract. They stay in provider-name order. This is a category filter, not a ranking and not a hands-on test. Published starting prices are not in the extract, so every card tells you to check the provider. Visit buttons open the official homepage. No tracking link is attached. Country coverage for tax reports is a provider fact, not something this directory infers from a homepage.
Portfolio tracking has 1 product in this extract. Holdings, performance and reporting. Not an order ticket. The compilation date is 2026-10-16. That date is not a claim that the product was used, and it is not a price check. Software does not determine an investment result.
Provider selection follows the 16 October 2026 workbook: paid third-party software a subscriber might buy, kept apart from broker comparisons. Categories follow the workbook labels, grouped so a reader can filter. Features, advantages and limitations are the workbook's own phrases, edited only for grammar. Missing fields stay missing. Homepage addresses were taken from that workbook and point at the provider's site. Country eligibility is not inferred from a website being reachable.
WiTMarkets may later earn a fee if a provider accepts a partnership and the firm authorises a tracked link. No partnership is active. Compensation would not set the order, the advantages or the limitations. The commercial disclosure page states the standing rule.
