Commodity category
Energy markets: WTI, Brent and natural gas
Energy prices are regional even when the headline says oil or gas. WTI and Brent are different crude benchmarks. Natural gas clears through pipelines, storage and, for seaborne trade, liquefied cargoes. A US hub price is not a European hub price.

Market overview
Crude is not one barrel. WTI is a US inland benchmark with a delivery framework at Cushing. Brent is a seaborne benchmark used widely in international cargo pricing. The two prices can diverge when pipelines, storage or freight get in the way.
Natural gas is more local still. Weather moves heating and power demand. Storage fills in mild seasons and draws in cold ones. LNG links some regions, slowly, and does not make every hub the same market.

WTI crude oil
US crude benchmark shaped by storage, inland delivery and futures expiry.

Inventories
Visible stocks are part of supply. A low stock is not, by itself, a trade.
Refining and freight
A crude price and a fuel price are separated by refinery runs and shipping.
Weather
Gas demand and, at times, production both depend on it.
Policy and conflict
Sanctions and export routes change who can deliver.
Ways to take the exposure
These are different legal positions. A platform may offer one and not the others. Nothing here is available in every country.
Exchange futures
A named contract month, margin and an expiry. Delivery rules matter if you hold into the notice period.
Funds
Often a rolling futures position. The curve can dominate the spot story.
Producer equities
An energy company, not a barrel.
CFDs
A contract with a firm, where the rules allow it. No barrel and no warehouse.
Contract specifications
CME Group
The exchange publishes the contract unit, tick, currency and settlement rule. This page does not copy a size, a tick or a margin, because those figures were not read from the specification table. A broker margin is a separate, variable number.
Read the exchange pageICE
ICE lists Brent and other energy contracts. This page does not reprint ICE’s contract tables.

What the costs usually are
Futures add commission and exchange fees. Funds add the roll and an ongoing charge. CFDs add spread and financing. Currency conversion sits on top when the quote currency is not yours.
What a headline commission leaves out of the bill separates the commission from the spread, financing and other charges.
Risks that belong to this market
Expiry and delivery
A crude future can have delivery rules you did not intend to meet.
Curve
Contango means a later contract is priced above the nearer one. Rolling can be a cost.
Regional basis
The hub in the news may not be the hub in the contract.
Compare energy providers
The list is the commodities research workbook’s assignment for this group. A firm appears here only when that workbook places it in energy. A group assignment is not proof that every market in the group is offered. Firms with no group in the workbook are left out. The order is alphabetical. It is not a ranking, and no commercial relationship is recorded on these rows.
15 of 15 providers assigned to Energy in the research workbook. Order is alphabetical. A region filter means the research note mentions that region. It does not confirm you can open an account there.

How spread, fees and financing sit beside a headline commission.
OpenA benchmark is a location
WTI, Brent and Henry Hub natural gas answer different questions. One is an inland US crude. One is a waterborne crude reference. One is a US gas hub. Using any of them as the world’s energy price skips the pipe, the ship or the cavern that makes the price local.
The product pages keep those delivery stories separate and do not publish a live quote.
Questions
Does Brent equal the oil price?
Brent is one benchmark. Other crudes trade at premia or discounts to it. A product that says only oil has not named the benchmark.
Why can a gas fund differ from the price in the news?
The fund may hold a different hub, a different month, or a strip of months that it rolls.
