Energy
Natural gas trading: hubs, storage and weather
Natural gas is regional. A Henry Hub price in the United States is not a European hub price and not an LNG cargo price. Weather, storage and pipeline capacity move it faster than a long-term demand story.

Market overview
US gas futures refer to Henry Hub. Winter and summer months are not the same contract, because heating demand and storage injections follow the calendar. A mild winter can leave storage full and the near contract weak.
LNG connects some regions by ship. It does not make the hubs one market. Pipeline constraints can separate prices inside a single country.
What tends to move it
Weather
Heating and, in summer, power demand for cooling.
Storage
The seasonal build and draw is the inventory cycle.
Pipelines and LNG
Capacity decides whether a regional surplus can leave.
Contract month
A winter future and a summer future answer different questions.
Ways to take the exposure
These are different legal positions. A platform may offer one and not the others. Nothing here is available in every country.
Henry Hub futures
The main US listed contract. Other hubs have other contracts.
Funds
May track a different hub or a strip of months.
CFDs
A firm’s gas price. Confirm the hub.
Producer shares
A gas producer’s costs and hedges, not the hub price.

What the costs usually are
Futures commission and fees, plus the roll if you move along the curve. Seasonal spreads can be wide. A CFD’s financing is a different charge.
What a headline commission leaves out of the bill separates the commission from the spread, financing and other charges.
Risks that belong to this market
Weather shocks
A cold spell or a mild month can reprice the near contract quickly.
Wrong hub
A European headline is not a Henry Hub position.
Seasonal gaps
Liquidity and limit moves can be harsher in stressed months.

OpenWhat a commission leaves out
How spread, fees and financing sit beside a headline commission.
OpenStorage is the balance
Gas that cannot be burned today goes into storage, if there is room. The futures curve often reflects that seasonal rhythm. A fund that rolls through it is not holding a single spot price.
This page does not publish a storage statistic or a price. EIA and the exchange are the places for those figures.
Questions
Is US gas the world gas price?
No. Hubs differ. LNG links them only partially and with a lag.
Why do winter and summer contracts differ?
Demand and storage follow the seasons. They are different delivery periods.
