Agriculture
Wheat trading: grades, exchanges and the crop year
Wheat is a food staple with a seasonal calendar and more than one futures contract. Grade and delivery location are part of the specification. A crop report or an export restriction can reprice a month before a fund factsheet changes.

Market overview
Exchanges list different wheats. A contract for one class and one delivery point is not a hedge for every milling wheat. The CME Group’s agricultural pages are the place to read which contract is which.
Weather during the growing season and policy at export terminals are the recurring shocks. They are not a forecast.
What tends to move it
Weather
The crop is biological. A season can fail in one region and not another.
Export policy
A ban or a tariff changes available supply for importers.
Grade
Protein and class decide which contract is relevant.
Old crop and new crop
Different months are different harvests.
Ways to take the exposure
These are different legal positions. A platform may offer one and not the others. Nothing here is available in every country.
Listed wheat futures
Name the exchange and the class before comparing brokers.
Funds
Uncommon as a pure wheat holding. Read the basket.
Agribusiness shares
A trader or a mill, not the grain.

What the costs usually are
Futures commission and exchange fees. Delivery, if you reached it, has its own costs. A wide spread in a quiet month is an implicit cost.
What a headline commission leaves out of the bill separates the commission from the spread, financing and other charges.
Risks that belong to this market
Wrong wheat
Hedging a different class leaves basis.
Policy shocks
Export rules can change faster than a position can.
Seasonality
The month you hold is a harvest, not a permanent price.

OpenThe grade is the contract
Wheat futures look alike in a headline and differ in the rulebook. Protein, class and delivery point decide whether the contract matches a physical purchase.
The provider directory rarely names wheat. Those firms stay in the agriculture group list, which is not confirmation.
Questions
Is there one wheat price?
No. Classes and delivery points differ.
Do crop reports settle the argument?
They update an estimate. Later revisions are normal.
