Dividend calculator

If a company paid the annual dividend you type, on the number of shares you type, the cash would be the product of the two. Yield is that dividend divided by the price you type. The calculator stops there. It does not predict the next payment.

How the calculation works

Income equals shares times the annual dividend per share. Yield equals the dividend divided by price when price is above zero. Both are shown before tax. A trailing yield uses a dividend that has already been declared or paid. A prospective yield uses a dividend that might not happen. The tool does not know which one you typed, so the label stays conditional.

Assumptions

  • The dividend is per share, in the same currency as the price.
  • No withholding tax, no dividend drag inside a fund, no reinvestment.
  • Special dividends are easy to mistake for a run-rate. Exclude them if you want a run-rate.

A worked example

400 shares, an annual dividend of 1.25 and a price of 50. Income is 500. Yield is 2.5%. If the price falls to 40 and the dividend is unchanged, the yield rises to 3.125% and you are not richer. If the dividend is cut to zero, income is zero whatever the calculator said yesterday.

Limitations

Funds and ETFs distribute under their own policies. A share count of a fund is not a share count of each holding. Tax wrappers change what you keep and are outside this tool.

Change one input at a time if a result looks surprising. The arithmetic is only as careful as the numbers you type, and it does not know your broker’s contract size.

Income if that dividend is paid500.00
Simple yield2.50%

This is conditional on the dividend you typed. It is not a forecast.
